Magical women: Representations of female characters in the Witcher video game series

Several videogames allow players to form their own narratives by making the player choose certain options with different dialogues and thus representations. This can be problematic when exploring representation of gender from perspective player’s experiences. I argue that one way overcome this is use corpus linguistic methods. In paper, videogame series The Witcher (CD Projekt Red, 2007, CD 2011, 2015) taken as a case study for lexico-grammatical analysis via Keyword shows male characters are more likely occur than female have diverse range professions characters. main game typically sorceresses, so explore how term used across corpus. demonstrates sorceresses represented educated intelligent, but subject glass ceiling effect: they only ever advisors not leaders. regardless what choose, statistically encounter these representations gender, raising questions about whether it possible escape sexist discourses in medium.
